Cottage Style Bedroom Decor
Hi y’all! I hope your week is off to a good start! Did you see the post I shared this weekend for the twins second birthday party? The party animal birthday theme turned out SO cute! If you have kiddos and grandkids, go take a peek!
Today I want to share our french cottage bedroom tour with you! Over the past year, I’ve been working on refreshing our bedroom! I can only do a little at a time, but little-by-little adds up!
French Cottage Ruffled Bedding
I started by updating our bedding. The previous comforter was something we purchased after our wedding and we had not changed it out in about eight years! And my style has changed a little since then, so I was itching to switch things around.
I’ve linked all the bedding down down below as well, but here are some quick links for you.
- Grey Comforter with Ruffles
- Ruffle Linen Euro Shams
- Euro Pillow Inserts
- Ruffle Lumbar Pillow Cover
- White Linen Ruffle Duvet
- White Bamboo Sheets: Code: CE-LiveOakNest to save at checkout!
I made the bed skirt out of bleached drop cloth. It was a no-sew project and I love how it looks! I’ll be sharing that process in a blog post soon! The curtains are also bleached drop cloth!
Painting Bedroom Furniture
Once I switched out the bedding, I decided to paint our bedroom furniture. We had a white bed that had started to really yellow over time. Since I had a lot of white in my bedding, I decided to paint the bed in the color Goddess Ashwagandha by Fusion Mineral Paint. It’s a beautiful greige color that looks beautiful with creams, whites, and tans. I pained my nightstand in the color Cathedral Taupe by Fusion Mineral Paint and switched out the hardware for chunky glass pulls. It completely changed the look of the furniture! I have changed out the knobs on the large dresser that sits opposite the bed, but I still need to paint it. It will be painted in the same colors as the bed, and I plan to do that soon so I can share the process with y’all!
Painting The Bedroom Walls
After I had the bed painted, I decided to brighten up the room and paint two of the walls. I painted the East and West walls in Alabaster by Sherwin Williams, which is a beautiful creamy white color. It’s a beautiful white, not too stark, and not too creamy. The North and South walls are painted in Accessible Beige by Sherwin Williams. I do like this color as well, but feel it looks best in a room with a lot of natural light!

Once I had the large elements in the room looking like I wanted, I started incorporating decor pieces. I added in the antique wooden shutters on either side of the window. I found those at a local antique mall and I fell in love when I saw them. The raw wood and their substantial size works great for this room. I attached a wall sconce (from hobby lobby) to each shutter and then placed a candle wreath and a little bird on each sconce. Don’t they look so pretty?! I love the look of these!
I also picked up the antique ledge above the bed from an antique mall. It is just an old architectural salvage item, but I love the chippy paint and the character it adds.
The mirrors on either side of the bed are from Kirklands. They were available in black and champagne at the time I purchased them, neither of which went well with my room. So I painted the black metal on the mirrors with Fusion Mineral Paint in the color Goddess Ashwagandha.
The shelf above our large dresser is an antique mantle that I found at an antique store. And it was actually salvaged from an old home in Grapevine, TX, which is close to where we live! I love the character that the crack and dark aging spots adds to the mirror.

The large tray with quilts that sits on top of the dresser was another thrift find, and it’s perfect for breakfast in bed or keeping extra quilts tidy. You can find the tutorial for the bird nest book stack here.
My absolute favorite candles are from Antique Candle Company. I have Country Pear burning in our bedroom, which is one of my favorite scents! It has a light, sweet smell and I think it creates a peaceful, serene feeling in the room. Antique Candle Co. describes it as a cozy blend of fresh golden pear with rich plum, highlighted with brown sugar vanilla and soft notes of roasted hazelnut. It’s heavenly y’all!
The wooden tulip on the antique mantle, the bunny on the window seal, and the heart in the antique secretary desk are all from my sweet friend Aimee over at Rustic Occasions! She will be restocking her Etsy shop at the end of April so make sure you save the link above and check back! You can also follow her on Instagram for restock updates!
The wall hook that you see when you first walk in was a Hobby Lobby find. I love having it there to hang baskets and throw blankets. It adds a little something to that space and its functional!
Antique Secretary Desk
The antique secretary desk was a piece I painted a while back. I have some of my favorite little treasures displayed on it.
I’d love for you to say hello down below and let me know what you think! And if we’re not friends over on Facebook or Instagram, what are you waiting for?! ☺️
