Come see my flower pot makeover as I refresh my little front porch for Summer! Turn plain terra cotta pots into beautiful topiary planters!

Hi friends! I hope your week is off to a great start! Last week was my birthday so I took a little time off to enjoy my sweet little family! My husband took the kids to pick out cards and flowers and took a little video for me. It was SO cute! Here are the flowers they picked out.

Live Oak Nest Table Centerpiece of Tulips

Aren’t the colors so vibrant and pretty?! I just love tulips! Last week on the blog I shared a little update on the home! Click here to see the recent progress. We have a meeting this week and after that, sheetrock will go up!

So today I want to share my little porch refresh that I did for Summer. I basically skipped right over Spring. HA! My little porch barely gets any sun, and I always have a hard time finding any plants that will do well in my pots during the Spring. So I wanted until I could grab some ferns and caladiums before I spruced it back up!

I’ve wanted some tall round planters, but my goodness flower pots are expensive! This walkway and porch are also pretty narrow so I decided to keep what I had and give it a little makeover. I had painted the pot black last year, but decided to lighten it up this year. You can watch the video down below to see how I achieved this concrete look. I do like how it turned out and think it brightens up this little spot. Do you?

French Cottage Farmhouse Live Oak Nest Large Bird Nest wall art

You might remember the large DIY bird nest I made earlier this season for a Spring tablescape. Well I decided to repurpose it and use it as wall art for the porch! This little project was so simple. I took a wood panel, painted it with blue buffalo check, and then used a command hook to hang my nest. So simple, and a nice way to add a little color and dimension to the brown brick wall!

Planter Bird Accent, Bird with Key Wings

This little bird that has the old key wings is from Marigold Trading Company. I have several of their angels and I love these little birds too!

This little bunny usually sits here on the porch to greet us when we come home! I love this little guy and usually change out his bow with the seasons. Should I give him a blue bow to tie into the blue on the wall? I might have to do that in a few days!

Topiary Flower Pot Makeover

The topiary on the front porch came from Walmart this year. I loved it so much I went back to get two more to use inside. I thought two of them would be so pretty on either side of the mantle. And of course once I had the plants, I needed pots to put them in. I grabbed two terra cotta pots from Hobby Lobby and made them over using chalk paint and Iron Orchid Design paper clay moulds. I love how they turned out! You can see how I made these in the video down below too!

I’m planning on putting my big church painting back up here soon and I think I will put the topiaries on either side of it. I wanted to do one last little house refresh and maybe a Summer tour before we put this place on the market. And if not before, I’ll share a full home tour before we move when everything is picked up and put away for showings! 🙂

  1. I’m definitely going to be trying this very soon. I’ve been wanting to do a variety of projects using moldable onlays but hadn’t worked out the details yet. This is the perfect product to do it with! I can’t wait to get started.
