Welcome back friends! I’m so excited to share some French Cottage Autumn home decor inspiration with you today!
The Fall season, especially when it comes to decorating, has become a favorite of mine over the years. I love all of the pumpkins and dried florals so much. Last year I decorated for fall with mostly greens and browns. This year, I chose to decorate in a similar way but I layered in some soft pinks and mauves.

French Cottage Autumn Home Decor Inspiration
If you love my take on French cottage style and want to decorate in a similar fashion, consider using a muted color palette all year long. Then bring in seasonal colors, textures, and elements with textiles and decorative accents throughout the seasons.
There are a few elements that I consider staples for my Fall and Autumn home decor.
French Cottage Autumn Decor Staples:
French Cottage Living Room Fall Decor
I primarily decorate our main living area and our bedroom so I’ll share those areas today.
You’ll notice I pulled out all of my DIY Pretty Painted Faux Pumpkins. The pumpkins look so realistic and the colors work so well in my home. If you love decorating with neutrals or non-traditional fall colors, this pumpkin project is so simple and really makes it easy to decorate for Fall.
Note: Replace your faux pumpkin stems with real dried stems! This really elevates your painted pumpkins and makes them look life-like. Remove stems from your real pumpkins, let them dry, and use them the next year. Or purchase dried pumpkin stems from Etsy.
For my coffee table centerpiece, I arranged some dried hydrangeas in a vase I thrifted and painted, and then I tied a brown velvet ribbon around it. The brown velvet ribbon is from Hobby Lobby and it is some of my favorite ribbon. It comes in a variety of beautiful colors too!
Next, I layered in some of my Pretty Painted Faux Pumpkins, along with some dried grapevine and fabric acorns. (The dried grapevine is a deconstructed grapevine wreath!) To create the fabric acorns, simply follow this DIY Fabric Pumpkin tutorial but adjust the size of your fabric circle and then hot glue on an acorn cap. This vignette is grouped together on this large, beautiful wooden tray.
I kept my French buffet table simple and added my DIY Wheat Bundles. This project is so simple; it just takes a little time! I store these by laying them flat in my storage bins and then switch out the ribbon each year.
French Country Cottage Throw Pillows
Throw pillows might be the easiest way to change up a room and add a seasonal touch. I rounded up a couple of my favorite French Country Cottage Fall throw pillows for you; simply click on an image to shop.
Pro Tip: If you grab a pillow that includes a cheap, flat insert consider removing the insert and replacing it! It will give your pillow a nice, full look and will hold a center “chop” if you prefer that style! This is my FAVORITE pillow insert.
Cozy Fall Candles

Seasonal Ribbon
I love selecting a few ribbons that compliment my seasonal color scheme and adding them around the house. It really helps tie everything together! This brown and white stripe ribbon was from Amazon. I’m not seeing the exact one I purchased any longer, but this brown stripe ribbon is very close! Etsy is a great place to shop for ribbon, along with Hobby Lobby, Michael’s, and JoAnn’s.

French Cottage Dining Table Autumn Decor
I found this antique French Jardiniere Planter at a local antique market and I snatched it right up! These cast iron planters can be pretty pricey so I was shocked to grab it for such a good deal. I piled it full of dried hydrangeas, dried gourds, dried moss, and a few tiny faux flowers. It’s placed in the center of the dining table.
If you need to add a little fall touch to your china hutch, may I suggest dried florals?! I love these dried bunny tails and they look so cute sitting in my small ironstone pitchers. Next to the hutch, I added a basket of dried florals on top of a stool.
Entryway and Mudroom Fall Decor
If you decorate with mirrors, you can use command hooks to easily hang fall wreaths. This dried wheat wreath is hanging on a mirror in our entryway. The antique buffet and large mirror were both Facebook marketplace finds. I refinished them both using Jolie paint! The buffet is painted in the color Swedish Grey and the mirror is painted in the color Eucalyptus.
Shop Jolie Paint
Jolie paint is some of my very favorite chalk based paint. Their colors are beautiful and the paint goes on so nice and smooth. It’s not too thick and the coverage is excellent! All of the furniture that I’ve painted in my home has been done with Jolie paint. I even use it to paint home accents like mirrors and seasonal decor like my pretty painted pumpkins!
This beautiful basket is hanging on the hooks in our mudroom. It’s filled with faux hops stems. You can find the long brass wall hook here. When we moved into this home, the coat hooks were simple, individual silver hooks. I removed them all and put this long bar coat rack in their place. It’s a solid, high quality piece from Magnolia!
Home Office Fall Decor
I had some extra painted pumpkins to spare, so I added one to my home office. You can see I added a few fabric acorns and a brown velvet ribbon bow to this fall vignette.
The pin board is a DIY that I’ll be sharing soon. I took an old mirror frame and created this beautiful pin board! The gingham plaid shaded lamp was from Target a while back. I did refinish the base, and I’ll be sharing a tutorial on how to create this ceramic looking base soon as well!
French Cottage Autumn Bedroom Decor
The fall decor in our bedroom is simple and peaceful. I added a few velvet pumpkins and hung my DIY Fall Swag above the bed. The swag is beautiful above the bed and adds a nice touch of fall! I found this dark brown, velvet lumbar pillow at a market several months back and I loved pulling it out for fall this year!
You might notice the new lamp shades as well. I added those a few months back. I’m really loving all of the block print patterns and these pleated, block print shades are SO affordable!
I love layering bedding for a beautiful, full look. This beautiful, floral Laura Ashley quilt adds a nice pattern and can be used all year-round!
